The beginning of it all.....

(photographed 11-27-06)

As many of you know, the last two years has been difficult ones, losing my mom and brother, fighting illnesses and broken backs, and basically separating myself from my father and his drama.

When I was cleaning out my mom's townhouse in October of 2006, I came across the photo shown.  The photo is of my mom and me, a few weeks old, taken by my dad, with his first 35mm camera.... the Mamiya pictured. I am sure he developed it, the picture was hand cut and matted by him also. I came across the box to the Mamiya also, and it was filled with more pictures from when I was a baby.

Its a strange irony.....one of the first pictures of me, by my first photographic influence, with his first good camera setup, of the wife and child he lost by choice.

I love the picture of my mom and I......it is one that will be with me forever. I guess I can at least thank my dad for that. It almost got thrown away- it fell out of a book I was about to toss in a dumpster. Now, if my house was burning, I would take this before the camera bag. Go figure.

This picture isn't perfect by any means, I was just playing with some new lights and had that stuff around and just kind of played with the arrangement. I also played with Photoshop a bit to get different looks to the photos.

I miss you, mom.
